Pinafore Dress – Made In This Amazing Plaid Wool Design
The Fleur Pinafore Maxi Length Tiered Dress
So now that my latest sewing pattern The Dixie Dress and Blouse has been launched and is now out in the wide world I am ready to start planning my next one. I have been working on a lovely new pinafore-style dress sewing pattern design which I have named The Fleur Pinafore. I wanted to make a pinafore dress for my autumn-winter wardrobe and used this amazing plaid wool fabric. Could this be my next sewing pattern I wonder?
Orya Textiles Fabric
The lovely people at Orya Textiles asked if I would like to work with some of their fabric for one of my sewing projects, in return for an honest review. Well, I didn’t need to hesitate and knew exactly which fabric I was going to choose. This beautiful 100% plaid wool fabric just caught my eye. At this point, I had no idea what I was going to make with it so I ordered 2 metres just to be on the safe side. I had wanted to work with a wool fabric but never had an idea of what to make with it. Until I saw this delicious 100% plaid wool with the most amazing colours of olive green and old gold.
When the fabric arrived I just knew immediately I had to make a pinafore style dress with it and set about drafting my design. I had already designed the Poppy Pinafore which was my first sewing pattern and a really popular sewing pattern. It has a pretty button placket down the back for that added interest. See this post for all the details on the Poppy Pinafore!
Designing My Dress
So I wanted something a little different this time round. I drew a few sketches and after a few attempts I came up with this style of pinafore
I love it so much. The sweep of the neckline and the tiered maxi-style skirt. Of course, there are in-seam pockets too! There are no fastenings to worry about, simply pop the pinafore over your head and layer a pretty blouse underneath. Here I have styled it with my black chunky boots and a mustard double gauze peter pan style blouse that I drafted the week before. Could this be the next pinafore style dress sewing pattern that I launch? It is so perfect for autumn and winter outift ideas.

It turned out so much better than I could have hoped for, especially for a first-time draft. I also lined the bodice which gives it clean and professional finish. I decided not to add lining to the skirt part of the pinafore because I always wear a petticoat or waist slip. I love how it drapes and the swishy-ness of the skirt.
