I love my amazing quilted chic dress, inspired by the 1980’s designs of Laura Ashley style!

Being an avid fashion enthusiast, I perpetually find joy in designing and sewing unique outfits.

Experimenting with diverse fabrics, and exploring various styles. Recently, I delved into the world of sewing to create a bespoke dress using a beautiful quilted jersey fabric.

The vision was to blend sophistication with comfort, incorporating a turtleneck and deep cuffs on gathered sleeves. Little did I know that the end result would surpass my expectations.

I am totally in love with how my design has evolved into this stunning quilted dress.

Reviving Romance: The Allure of 1980s Laura Ashley Fashion

The iconic 1980s Laura Ashley style was a distinctive and influential fashion movement that encapsulated a romantic and feminine aesthetic.

Laura Ashley, a British fashion designer, became synonymous with a timeless, romanticized vision of English country living. Her designs featured flowing floral prints, ruffles, and delicate detailing, drawing inspiration from historical clothing, particularly the Victorian and Edwardian eras.

The fashion of this era embraced a return to a more genteel and nostalgic past, characterized by long, flowing skirts, high necklines, and a preference for natural fabrics. Laura Ashley’s designs not only captured the essence of the English countryside but also reflected a desire for simplicity and elegance in a world that was becoming increasingly fast-paced.

The 1980s Laura Ashley style was more than just clothing; it represented a lifestyle—an appreciation for craftsmanship, a connection to nature, and a celebration of timeless beauty.

Crafting a Quilted Jersey Marvel

My creative journey began with drafting a t-shirt style bodice and a skirt that gracefully rested on my hips. The stretchy yet robust nature of the quilted jersey fabric made it an ideal choice. Seeking a subtle nod to the ’80s aesthetic of Laura Ashley, I then added details to infuse that era’s charm. The deep cuffs on the sleeves emerged as the perfect touch, while the gathered sleeves introduced volume without overwhelming the design. My quilted chic dress is appearing before me!

Embracing Comfort: Layers of Quilted Jersey Fabric

Obviously, the quilted layers of the jersey fabric provides comfort and warmth. The material’s softness against the skin made it the perfect ensemble for chilly days. Versatility met coziness in a garment that quickly became a joy to wear throughout the day.

Elevating Style: A Quilted Jersey Fashion Statement

Additionally, when it came to styling this quilted masterpiece, I aimed to let the fabric and design take the spotlight. Paired with simple black boots and a classic leather belt, the quilted jersey dress effortlessly stood out. The contrast between the quilted jersey fabric and the leather created a striking visual, emphasizing the unique design.

Playing with accessories allowed me to experiment further, whether adding a statement necklace or bold earrings. The dress is so versatile, adapting for all occasions – from casual outings with friends to more formal events.

Versatility Unleashed: From Work to Casual Outings in Quilted Style

The dress, with its Laura Ashley-inspired design, emanates a lovely feminine charm. The gathered sleeves and deep cuffs contribute to its uniqueness, while the turtleneck bestows an elegant and chic touch suitable for any formal occasion. The lower-hip skirt design ensures both comfort and a flattering silhouette.

Styling this dress is a joy in simplicity. It pairs seamlessly with black boots or pumps, depending on the occasion. For accessories, I opt for simple yet impactful choices like stud earrings and a delicate necklace. During colder months, for instance, a trench coat or blazer complements the ensemble, ensuring warmth without compromising style.

In addition to its style versatility, the quilted jersey fabric is remarkably easy to care for. Tossing it into the washing machine on a gentle cycle and hanging it to dry preserves the quilted jersey’s durability. The fabric’s resistance to wrinkles reduces the need for ironing, a practical feature I appreciate.
