Looking for a sewing pattern review for the Avenir Jumpsuit? Look no further! In this post, I will take a detailed look at this popular pattern from the Friday Pattern Company and see what makes it a must-try for any sewist. From sizing to styling, I’ve got you covered in this Avenir Jumpsuit sewing pattern review. So let’s dive right in!
I have been yearning to make myself a jumpsuit or a dungaree set, and have spent countless hours scouring the internet for the perfect pattern.
There are so many patterns to choose from, each with its own unique style. However, none of them quite met my expectations. So when I stumbled upon the Avenir Jumpsuit sewing pattern by The Friday Pattern Company for this month’s project, I was immediately intrigued. Finally, it seemed that I had found the perfect pattern for me.
What a hidden gem this pattern is! I cannot believe I haven’t come across it before. To say I love it would be an understatement. Let me tell you all about my experience making this beautiful jumpsuit and why I highly recommend it.
My Color Wheel
Choosing the right fabric for a project is always a fun part of the process. For the Avenir Jumpsuit, I picked a fabulous colour called Ochre – in a burnt orange shade. My skin tone falls in the ‘deep autumn’ color wheel, and this shade is one of my colors. It complements the hue and color of my skin beautifully.
Avenir Jumpsuit Sizing Guide: How to Choose the Right Size for You
The sizing of the pattern ranges from XS to 4X, catering to everyone’s preferences. Deciding on the perfect size was a thoughtful process for me, given the jumpsuit’s relaxed fit. I didn’t want the garment to be too loose or baggy. After going through the finished garment measurements, it was evident that this pattern had a generous amount of positive ease. Therefore, I decided to go for the medium size, which has turned out to be an excellent choice. Nevertheless, I am contemplating experimenting with the sizing by grading down on the trousers for my next jumpsuit project.
Avenir Jumpsuit Review: The Perfect Sewing Pattern for Beginners
The instructions for the Avenir Jumpsuit are super easy to follow, as with all of Friday Pattern Company’s patterns. The step-by-step layout with great diagrams to refer to is always welcome. This would be a great sewing pattern for anyone new to dressmaking or feeling a bit rusty. As there are no fastenings or complicated construction methods to tackle, it’s a great choice. The jumpsuit is a relaxed and easy-to-wear style, with billowy sleeves and palazzo-style legs. The elastic casing on the neckline and waist makes it super comfortable to wear. They are definitely secret pyjamas.
Minerva Core Range Washed Vintage Linen Look Fabric Review: Why Vintage Linen is the Best Fabric for Jumpsuits
There are 19 gorgeous shades to choose from in this range, and it’s 100% cotton. The fabric is 55 inches wide and was a pleasure to sew with. It handled superbly and ironed like a dream. I also love the slub effect of the fabric, which gives it a vintage twist. It’s a medium-weight fabric, 210 gsm, which gives it a lovely drape – perfect for this style of jumpsuit. The palazzo-style pants just hang beautifully from the elastic-cased waistband. I used a rainbow thread for my overlocked seams, which gives it a pop of color on the inside.
Styling Tips for the Avenir Jumpsuit: From Summer to Winter
I love the relaxed look of this jumpsuit, with its slightly dropped crotch line. I styled mine with sandals and a raggy fabric brooch, which made the whole outfit complete. Moreover, it’s a versatile piece that you can dress up or down depending on the occasion.
Furthermore, I think this jumpsuit is versatile enough to be worn in any season. I love how it can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. In the summer, pair it with sandals or trainers and in the winter, layer it with a turtle neck top or a woolen tabard. The possibilities are endless and it’s the perfect addition to any wardrobe.
In addition, when the temperature drops, I can easily layer with a sweater or jacket for a cozy yet stylish look.
Lastly, its timeless style means I can wear it for years to come, making it a great investment piece for any wardrobe. I plan to wear it with a turtle neck top underneath in the cooler months and perhaps a woolen tabard layered over the top. There are lots of styling possibilities for sure.
Avenir Jumpsuit Modifications: How to Personalize Your Jumpsuit for a Perfect Fit
The only change I made to the pattern was on the length of the trouser leg. I shortened mine by 2 inches as I wanted them to sit just above my ankle. It is a great pattern to adapt if you want to shorten or lengthen the legs as I did.
