Wilder Gown Blouse – Beautiful Botanicals

I am an old-fashioned girl at heart and love fabrics with that vintage touch. So this beautiful botanical viscose print was a perfect choice for my Wilder Gown Blouse.

Or anything with a hint of days gone by and especially with those soft muted colours of yesteryear. If you know me or follow me on social media you will know I love wearing separates, especially with a floral vibe. 

Anything ditsy floral or large flowers I love to wear.  I think it’s because you can create so many different outfits and utilise all the colours you find with floral fabrics.

Dress Up or Down

You can also dress them up for an evening out to dinner or dress down for a casual look.  I also find that with separates you get more wear out of them.  I do like wearing dresses and skirts but I tend to choose trousers and blouses more.  I just feel really comfortable wearing pretty blouses with jeans or trousers.

So many options

The Wilder Gown pattern by The Friday Pattern Company has been a really popular pattern.  There are three options to choose too.  Depending on how many tiers you choose you can create the maxi length, smock length or the blouse. There were so many fabulous creations on Instagram last year, especially the maxi length. You can get the pattern here.

Although I think it’s one of those designs that you either really love or find it’s just not for you.  Well, I’m on the ‘not for me’ side with the dress choice but I do love the blouse version. Seen here in this image of the lined drawings above.

I love ruffles and gathers

I love high necks and anything gathered or with ruffles.  See my post on my Ida Blouse for more ruffles!

Wilder Blouse

The Wilder blouse is such a pretty style with the gathered neck detail and the ‘Pussy Bow’ tie feature.

Botanical Viscose Print

When I received this beautiful botanical print viscose from Laura, Material Girl, in return for a blog post I knew it would be perfect for a Wilder Gown Blouse. 

The colours in this viscose print are just gorgeous.  Based on a navy, almost black, background with green, lavender and white foliage its just reminiscent of an English country garden.

I had 1.5 metres which was just enough to make the blouse.  I chose to lengthen the sleeves by 3.5 inches and added a casing for ¼ elastic which I threaded through to give a gathered cuff effect.  I also added another 1 inch to the body length, but when I make it again I will probably add 2 inches in total just for that extra length. 

Material Girl Laura

Laura has lots of beautiful fabrics to choose from and her delivery service is speedy quick too! All orders are gift wrapped in purple tissue paper, her brand colours and come in packaging that can be recycled and degradeable. You can find her fabulous fabric boutique here!

Cigarette Pants or Jeans

The blouse looks great with my cigarette pants and also with jeans.  It’s just a great piece and I have worn it numerous times since I made it last week!  As with all viscose fabrics, it has a lovely drape to it and launders really well too. 

Pattern Tweaks

It is also a great pattern that you can add your own tweaks to, and I have a few ideas with how I might make it differently next time.  You can see my vlog on this make here with more details on my blouse.

That is the beauty of dressmaking as you can just be as creative as you want!  Don’t get me wrong I don’t always get it right but I’m loving the process of learning.

My sewing pledge this year

So, this year in my dressmaking journey I am going to embark on making more trousers, dungarees and pinafores too.  I tend to make all the pretty blouses and then coordinate them with my jeans. So, these new wardrobe items will work with my blouses too.

I am planning on making the Closet Case Pietra Pants and the Jenny Overalls. I’ve had the patterns for both of these for quite some time, so nows the perfect time to get creating. You can get both these patterns from Minerva here.

So, my little sewing pledge this year is to try new garments and styles but at the same time create a working capsule wardrobe that is totally cohesive.

It will of course still include lots more blouses, some jersey knit tops and some toppers!  All of which will hopefully combine and work together.  Well here’s hoping!
