So it’s a busy week here at The Dressmakers Closet as I am preparing for the launch of The Ava Blouse sewing pattern.
I have just filmed the ‘sew with me’ video that will run alongside the written instructions. As I know some prefer the visual tutorial and it’s also good to watch if you just need some motivation too! I just need to edit the video and schedule the upload for Sunday so it’s readily available when people purchase the pattern.
I have also taken a few photos to add to the written instructions which include all the different variations you can create with this pattern.
I made the short sleeve version with bow tie today using some ditsy print cotton that I have had in my fabric stash for about 20 years ….. seriously no kidding ….. and I just spotted it and thought that it would be perfect to make another ‘Ava’. It is such a good feeling to use up some fabric from my stash too! It has made the prettiest version, this is my 6th blouse!
All in the name of research LOL!
I think I will probably make a few more as it is such a versatile pattern. I love to wear it with my jeans but then layer it under a Poppy Pinafore too! I cannot decide which version I like best as they all look so different in their own way. The fabric choice definitely makes each blouse look unique too. I have used viscose, linen blend, and cotton and they all look gorgeous.
The viscose gives the blouse a much drapier style whilst the cotton gives a more structured look. You can use any light to medium weight fabric and I am thinking that a baby cord might work really well for an autumn-winter version ….. long sleeve but equally short sleeve as you can layer a skinny t-shirt underneath too! I may be tempted to try that and I have also got some lovely chambray and linen in my stash that I could use.
Seriously once you have made one you will want to make so many more! Even my ‘testers’ have made more than one version as they loved making it!
It is all still quite surreal that I am about to release my 4th sewing pattern ….. I sometimes have to pinch myself to make sure it’s really happening.
Let me know what you think of this ditsy print I have used and are you a floral fiend like me too!
